Wakefield St Student Accommodation

Built by Icon Construction, this student accommodation block sits on the corner of Wakefield St and Mayoral Drive, Auckland. The building houses 697 self-appointed, single, student bedrooms across two mixed-use, multi-level towers.

The ask? Develop and manufacture joinery suitable for the modern university student. The joinery needed to include a kitchenette, study area, and bedframe, with plenty of storage. It had to be stylish and versatile, built with that little bit of classic style, to stand the test of time both aesthetically and structurally.

Compac Commercial worked closely with the architect and main contractor to achieve a design that would fit within the restraints of this impressive concrete structure building. We supplied and installed the furniture and kitchenettes for the student rooms, which were manufactured by sister-company Compac Home. And all laminated board products were sourced from Compac Panels.

Alongside the joinery, we sourced and supplied glass splashbacks, appliances, stainless benchtops, and mattresses, as well as an ergonomic office chair for each room – all whilst navigating through Covid-19 lock-downs and shipping delays. The result is an up-to-date take on student accommodation, providing comfort and convenience, the perfect place for a student to call home.
