Situated close to Auckland University and Auckland Hospital, on Grafton Road, Huia House dates to the 1950s and was originally a nurses’ home. However, the 11-storey building had felt the ravages of time.

Experienced developer and builder contractors Mansons TCLM Limited took on the challenge of the refit and repair. The family company embrace the green buildings concept and respect New Zealanders’ need for healthy, efficient, productive, and environmentally sustainable, homes and workplaces.

Huia House’s new purpose was to provide convenient accommodation for medical students and also for those supporting patients during their hospital stays.

Compac Commercial provided joinery for the 90 rooms on the top three floors, working closely with leading Auckland furniture and design company Soren Liv.

These very high-end refits required working around the inevitable complexities of older buildings, including sprinkler system installation.

Clever designs and solutions meant a lot could be accommodated in the stylish, dormitory-style rooms.

Through Soren Liv, Compac Commercial also supplied the tabletops, and room divisions manufactured using Compac Panels products for common areas on the ground floor, continuing the stylish look of the upper floors.
